Our Values

The values statement of an organization represents the core beliefs of the organization that inspire and guide the choices in the way it operates and deals with its people, its partners and the (strategic) environment. We uphold these core values in our own work, they are part of our Picaflores™ quality label for sustainability projects and we promote them in the nonprofit sector as a whole. They represent what we believe in, what we stand for, and how we approach everything we do. Together with the organization principles (see under “Our Organisation”) they are the core of the Picaflores concept manual and quality label. We derived 10 core values for Picaflores.org and for the Picaflores™ quality label

  1. Respect for People, Communities, and Cultures
We treat all people with dignity and respect.
  2. Integrity Beyond Reproach
We strive to meet the highest ethical standards.
  3. Inspiring example of sustainable change
We strive to transcend ourselves and to be an appealing example for sustainable change and tangible, lasting results.
  4. Empowerment
We empower the people, communities and projects we work with based on the shared values and organization principles we choose to comply to.
  5. Continuous improvement
We challenge each other gently to strive for continuous improvement and continuous learning.
  6. Co-creation and Interdependence
We will work collaboratively with other (nonprofit) organizations to assure the best possible outcome of projects and initiatives in an open dialogue.
  7. Courage
We will evaluate sustainability projects seeking funding without regard to criticism or difficulty (giving space for courageous, out-of-the-box thinking).
  8. Good Stewardship
We honor our heritage by being socially, financially and environmentally responsible.
  9. Transparency
We will operate openly and candidly and provide full disclosure on issues around conflict of interest, operations and funding practices. Our vision should at all times pass the elevator test of simplicity and is
consistently communicated to the rest of the world.
  10. Resiliency
Nonprofit organizations are going to face tough times, loss of sponsors, grants or donors. It is times like these we must have a core value of resiliency and discipline, looking for the next opportunity.
